Terrible tragedy! Widower of late Information Minister, Prof. Dora Akunyili, killed

Prowling gunmen have again wreak havoc in Anambra State following the assassination of Dr Chike Akunyili, the widower of former Information Minister, Prof. Dora Akunyili.

The assailants, according to reports, was killed at Umuoji in Idemili North council area of the state on Tuesday evening.

It was learnt that the deceased was earlier in the day at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Alumni Association where the late Dora Akunyili was post-humously honoured.

The husband had donated N500,000 to the association in appreciation of the honour done to his late wife.

He was accompanied to the occasion by his son, Obum Akunyili, an official of Anambra State Government.

No sooner than he departed the occasion that he was felled by the assassins bullets, Persecondnews gathered.

A grief-stricken family member said: “God, pls render the devil and his agents powerless and useless.

“I was with this man yesterday same yesterday at Sharon Hall, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha. It was an occasion of University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA), Onitsha branch event where they honoured late Dora Akunyili.

“He spoke glowingly about Dora and made a donation of N500, 000 to the association.

“He was there with his son ,Obum now working with Anambra state government.

“We saw them off to the car and it was emotional when Obum hugged him tight as both of them separated to join their respective vehicles.

“Obum was in a white Hilux while the man was in a big Jeep (i think Prado). God have mercy!”

Persecondnews recalls that at the weekend about three people were hacked to death in the state in a political violence as a build up to the November 6, 2021 Anambra Governorship polls.

He was reportedly killed alongside his police escort and one Aloysius, identified as his driver.
