“The parent was busy with the child’s registration when he wandered off where the dogs, 10 in number rushed at him, dragged him into their pen and devoured him with nobody in sight to rescue the boy”

A toddler, who was taken to Creche of a private school for him to begin his educational training and moulding, has been eaten up by some wild dogs right in the premises.

Infuriated by the incident, a mob mainly youths from the community swooped in and shot the 10 dogs on the loose dead.

Persecondnews gathered that the mother of the two-year-old boy had taken him to a private school in Amokpo, Umuanunwa, Nteje in Oyi council area of Anambra State for registration to begin school.

“The parent was busy with the child’s registration when he wandered off where the dogs, 10 in number rushed at him, dragged him into their pen and devoured him with nobody in sight to rescue the boy,” a source said.

It was learnt that the proprietor of the school, Mr Chinedu Oka, has been rearing dogs in the school premises ostensibly for security reasons.

As a result of the bizarre development, parents thronged the school to withdraw their children and wards.

“It’s a taboo to rear dogs in this community and the owner was well informed and warned but he didn’t heed the warning,” the source also said.

The spokesman for the State Police Command, ASP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident, saying the “situation is under control.”

Commenting on the incident, the
traditional head of the community, Igwe Rowland Odegbo, described it as an abomination.

“The owner of the school knew that rearing of dogs is prohibited in Nteje but he still went ahead to rear them and protect himself with dogs despite warning from the community.

“To us, the young man committed murder and we have handed him over to the appropriate authorities and we will make sure that justice is served because we don’t condone evil.

“The youths have killed and burnt the dogs and we are in support of their action,” he said.
