“The University Council, unambiguously declared its zero tolerance to sexual harassment in any form or guise and, accordingly, applied the appropriate University sanctions for such an offence as contained in the University regulation”
“Prof. Richard Akindele, a professor of Management Accounting of the university, was jailed by Justice Maureen Onyetenu for 24 months in December 2018 for soliciting sexual benefits from a female student to pass her in his course”
For sexually assaulting a female student, a lecturer in the Department of English Language in the Faculty of Arts of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in Osun, has been pink-slipped.
The horny lecturer, Dr. Adebayo Mosobalaje, has lost his academic career to sexual pleasures.
Mosobalaje was found guilty of sexual demeanor and was dismissed by the Governing Council of the institution, according to Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, OAU’s spokesman.
“In its avowed determination to rid the University of any form of sexual intimidation, harassment and, or coercion, the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has dismissed another lecturer who was found guilty of sexual demeanor against a female student.
“The decision to dismiss Dr. Adebayo Mosobalaje of the Department of English Language in the Faculty of Arts, was taken by the University Council at its last sitting on Tuesday, 7th September, 2021,” a statement by Olarewaju, a copy of which was given to Persecondnews, said.
The authorities also used the medium to read riot act to other randy lecturers.
“Having exhaustively deliberated on the report of the Joint Committee of Council and Senate which investigated the case of sexual harassment against Dr Mosobalaje, the University Council, unambiguously declared its zero tolerance to sexual harassment in any form or guise and, accordingly, applied the appropriate University sanctions for such an offence as contained in the University regulation,” it said.
Persecondnews recalls that Prof.Richard Akindele, a professor of Management Accounting of the university, was jailed by Justice Maureen Onyetenu for 24 months in December 2018 for soliciting for sexual benefit from the female student to pass her in his course.
On April 2020, the sex-for-mark lecturer was released from prison after serving the two-year term.
A Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, in 2018 had sentenced Akindele to prison after he pleaded guilty to four counts filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
The Commission had investigated sexual harassment allegations levelled against the professor by a female student, Monica Osagie.
Justice Maureen Onyetenu, who had to stand down the case two times, before finally giving her judgement, rejected a plea bargain agreed by the parties involved and insisted that the professor must be punished as a warning to higher institution lecturers in the habit of molesting female students.
Justice Onyetenu sentenced Akindele to 24 months imprisonment for asking Osagie for a sexual benefit and another 24 months jail term for soliciting sexual benefit from the victim to pass her.
The judge also sentenced Akindele to 12 months imprisonment for deleting parts of the WhatsApp conversation between him and Osagie to conceal evidence against him and sentenced him to another 12 months for falsification of age.
Again, on January 15, 2020, another
randy OAU lecturer accused of sexual harassment was suspended pending conclusion of investigation.
The management had suspended Olabisi Olaleye, a lecturer in the Department of International Relations and also placed him on half-pay following preliminary findings into the sexual harassment accusation by Motunrayo Afolayan, a student.
The decision was based on the initial evidence garnered by the investigative panel headed by Prof. Yetunde Ajibade, the Provost of Post Graduate College of the university.
