For losing his marriage following a court ruling, a man, Bilya Abdullahi, stabbed his nine-month-old pregnant ex-wife, Shafa’atu Saleh, and her elder brother, Ado Saleh.

A Sharia Court in Kano dissolved their marriage over maltreatment of the woman.

Shafa’atu from Wutar Kara Village in Rano Local Government Area of the state had dragged her ex-husband, Abdullahi, to Rano Upper
Sharia Court, seeking a formal dissolution of the marriage on the grounds of ill-treatment.

The court granted Shafa’atu’s plea and dissolved the marriage and also ordered her to return the N20, 000 dowry paid for her hand in marriage by Abdullahi.

However, shortly after the judgment was passed, Abdullahi, who was angered by the verdict, allegedly brought out a knife from his pocket and stabbed his ex-wife who is nine months pregnant, inflicting several injuries on her body.

Persecondnews gathered that the ex-wife’s brother was not spared too as Abdullahi also stabbed him on the back.

Speaking to newsmen while receiving treatment at a hospital in Rano, Shafa’atu said after the court’s judgment, they did not know that her ex-husband came to the court with a knife and followed them as they left the court premises.

“As we were walking not too far from the court premises, he just came and spoke to me but I shunned him.

“After that, Ado was in front of me, I just saw Bilya with a knife and before you knew it, he stabbed Ado at the back.

“When Ado ran away, he followed him and stabbed him severally, leaving him lying in the pool of his blood. He then returned to me.

“As a pregnant woman, I could not run. I fell to the ground. He pounced on me, stabbing me severally. He inflicted deep cuts on our bodies,” she narrated.

Bilya was also reported to have gone on rampage, threatening to stab whoever came to their rescue but was immediately overpowered by the police and arrested.

Confirming his arrest, the spokesman of Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, said he would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
