An internet fraudster, 32-year-old Oteyowo Akinkunmi Samuel, has been sent to jail for 14 months, according to a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

He was found guilty of defrauding Warren Doht, an American, of a total sum of N19.66 million.

Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel handed down the 14-month long sentence after he pleaded guilty to the amended charge.

Prosecution counsel Murtala Usman had urged the court to convict him accordingly.

Apart from the jail term, the court also ordered Oteyowo to restitute the N19,664,128.50 to the victim of the crime.

The convict had approached the EFCC for a plea bargain agreement which formed the basis for the amended charge.

Persecondnews reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal Office, had prosecuted Oteyowo, a graduate of civil engineering, on one-count amended charge of criminal impersonation.

The offence contravened Section 22(2), (b), and (ii) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention Etc) Act, 2015.
