Breaking: Unlawful assembly: Sowore, 4 pro-democracy activists remanded in prison

Omoyele Sowore, the Saharareporters Publisher and four other pro-democracy activists, arrested on January 1, 2021 few hours before President Muhammadu Buhari’s broadcast, have been remanded in Kuje prisons, Abuja.

The 2019 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) was ordered to be kept behind bars by a Wuse Magistrates’ Court.

Persecondnews reports that Sowore at its arraignment on Monday had pleaded not guilty to the charges read to him and others.

He is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful assembly and incitement.

Sowore and four others were arrested  for leading a “crossover protest” in Abuja.

Sowore’s lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN) had indicated that the activist would sue the Nigerian Police for torturing him in their custody and violating his fundamental human rights.
