A 52-year-old security guard, Adebayo Samson, who allegedly broke into the palace of a monarch, his employer, with others and stole N400,000 and a microphone worth N20,000, has been apprehended and is now facing trial at an Ogun Magistrates’ Court.

Samson had conspired with others still on the run to break into the palace and steal the money and the microphone from Oba Fatai Matanmi’s palace, Persecondnews reports from the court.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment on Thursday.

But the Police Prosecutor T.T. Olatoye insisted that the accused committed the offences and he is punishable under Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun 2006.

Samson, who resides at No. 24, Temitope Street, Iyana-Iyesi near Ota, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing at an Ota Magistrates’ Court.

Following his `not guilty’ plea, the Magistrate, Mrs. Sam Obaleye, in her ruling, admitted the defendant to a bail of N30,000 with a surety.

Other bail conditions given to the guard are that he should provide a surety, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the government.

Further hearing of the case has been fixed for Nov. 9, 2020.
