Ondo State governor Rotimi Akeredolu says he has tested positive for the coronavirus.
“Earlier today, I got confirmation of a positive result for Covid-19. I am asymptomatic and not displaying any symptoms,” he said Tuesday.
“I am currently self-isolating and supervised home management will be administered by the wonderful team at our Infectious Disease Hospital. I ask that we all stay safe and be well.”
Akeredolu on Tuesday joined the league of governors who have tested positive for COVID-19.
He is the fifth governor to be racked by the virus.
PerSecondnews recalls that Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) had beaten Coronavirus after they tested positive.
Akeredolu, who is currently self-isolating, is seeking re-election on the platform of his party — the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the October 10 Ondo governorship poll.
No official statement from the government whether the State Deputy Governor, who had just defected to the People’s Democratic Party will act for Gov. Akeredolu.
