Buhari, who was speaking as a member of a plenary on “the Role of Healthcare in Economic Transformation – Critical Role of Quality, Affordable & Accessible Healthcare”, at the ongoing #TEFforum2019, said Nigeria loses at least nine women to maternal mortality.
According to her, about 9.2 million women and girls get pregnant yearly in the country, and at least nine women die every day due to complications from child birth and pregnancy.
She said extreme poverty is one of the leading causes of maternal and child mortality, and called for policies that strengthen health care delivery systems in the country.
Buhari was represented by Mairo Almakura, wife of the immediate past governor of Nasarawa state.
