United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday congratulated Boris Johnson after it was announced Johnson would become the next United Kingdom Prime Minister.

“Congratulations to Boris Johnson on becoming the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” tweeted Trump. “He will be great!”

Johnson won a Conservative Party leadership contest, garnering 92,153 votes compared to rival Jeremy Hunt’s 42,656.

“I like him. I have always liked him. I don’t know that he is going to be chosen, but I think he is a very good guy, a very talented person,” Trump told The Sun of Johnson in an interview during his visit to the UK recently.

Johnson after being elected pledged “to get Brexit done.” He will become Prime Minister Wednesday.

Outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May, whose resignation triggered the leadership contest, also voiced support for Johnson despite having often being the target of his criticism.
