Nigeria Dominates in Cairo: 4 Gold Secured at World Para Powerlifting Championships

Esther Onyeama has made Nigeria proud once again, clinching two gold medals in the women’s 55kg category at the ongoing World Para Powerlifting Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

This impressive feat has propelled Nigeria to the second place on the medals table with an impressive four gold medals.

Onyeama’s remarkable comeback to the global stage saw her lift 125kg to secure her first World Championships title in 11 years.

The victory adds to Nigeria’s growing medal haul, which now stands at six – four gold, one silver, and one bronze.

Rita Ferdinand also made waves by claiming double gold in the 79kg category, while Esther Nworgu and Opeyemi Ajiboye secured silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the 50kg event.

These outstanding performances solidify Nigeria’s position as a powerhouse in para powerlifting.

With the championship being held on the African continent for the first time, Nigerian athletes are leaving their mark on the global stage.

Egypt currently tops the medals table with four gold, one silver, and three bronze medals.

The stellar performances of Nigeria’s para powerlifters have drawn attention to the country’s strength and determination in the sport.

This achievement is a testament to Nigeria’s dominance in para powerlifting, following their impressive performance at the 2023 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Dubai, where they won seven medals, including two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals.

The country continues to produce talented athletes who excel globally.
