The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has put preparations for the Super Falcons on hold until the world governing body, FIFA, confirms the official international window for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Having recently secured their 10th WAFCON title, the team is now focused on claiming an unprecedented 11th continental crown.

However, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau explained that preparations are currently on hold due to a lack of clarity from FIFA regarding player release dates.

“We are restricted until the FIFA window, which runs from February 26 to March 7,” Gusau stated, noting the importance of coordinating with clubs in Europe, the US, and Mexico.

He reassured the public that the federation has developed robust strategies and is ready to act as soon as FIFA provides the necessary confirmation.

“Once FIFA can confirm the dates when players will be released, be assured that you will be very happy with the plans we are going to make for the team,” he said.

The WAFCON tournament, scheduled from March 17 to April 3, 2026, will also serve as a qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Super Falcons, the undisputed queens of African football, are set to further cement their legacy as they chase another WAFCON title.
