A special Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting scheduled for Tuesday in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari has been postponed.

The decision was made for conflicting with the state funeral for the late leader, which will take place in Daura, Katsina State, on the same day.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy in a statement on Monday said: “The Office of the Secretary to the Federal Government will announce a new date for the FEC meeting after the funeral proceedings.”

Persecondnews reports that President Bola Tinubu had convened an emergency session to honour Buhari’s significant contributions to the country.

Due to necessary paperwork, the former President’s remains are now expected to arrive in Nigeria by noon on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

He will be laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in honor of the late leader.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, traveled to the UK on President Tinubu’s directive to escort Buhari’s remains back home.
