VCs fix varsity admission benchmark at 150

The Committee of Vice Chancellors and other heads of universities on Tuesday set 150 as the minimum admission benchmark for universities.

This was announced at the 2025 policy meeting organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.

This decision means that JAMB will not permit any university to admit candidates who score below 150 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

However, some universities, including the University of Ibadan, Pan-Atlantic University, and the University of Lagos, and others, opted for a higher minimum benchmark of 200.

Meanwhile, some newly established private universities proposed accepting candidates with UTME scores as low as 120.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, had initially suggested a minimum benchmark of 160 at the meeting.
