The newly inaugurated Abia State Government House, a project of the immediate past governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu in May 2023, will now function as a hotel.

Ikpeazu, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was defeated by Otti in the 2023 election.

Persecondnews recalls that specifically, Otti polled a total of 175,466 votes, while Okey Ahiwe of the PDP scored 88,526 votes.

The margin of victory was: 175,466 – 88,526 = 86,940 votes.

Labour Party Governor Alex Otti explained this decision, citing significant security concerns for himself and Government House staff due to the building’s location within a private residential zone.

Furthermore, the structure reportedly lacks essential amenities.

According to Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, speaking on Governor Otti’s behalf, the building is without a working elevator, and its upper floors are dilapidated and inadequately equipped.

“Only the first floor of the Government House was completed and furnished, while the upper ones are exposed to many structural defects despite huge public funds spent on the project,” he stated.
