Defending champions Zamalek have edged out Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) 3-2 (25-23, 28-26, 19-25, 24-26, 15-12) to qualify for the final of the ongoing African Women’s Volleyball Inter-Club Championship in Abuja.

The match was a nail-biter, with the Kenyans enjoying the support of the spectators at the stand.

Zamalek have been formidable in the championship, dropping just one set en route to the semifinal clash with KPC ladies.

The team’s captain, Noura Azmy, in an exclusive chat with Persecondnews, expressed confidence in her team’s ability to win the title for the third time.

“We are ready to go into the final. We have what it takes to defeat Al-Ahly,” Azmy said.

Azmy acknowledged that the match against KPC was tough, with her team dropping two sets due to lack of concentration and tiredness.

“Our coach was at the touchline yelling out instructions and making sure we didn’t drop our energy level,” she added.

The team’s coach also expressed gratitude for the warmth and kindness shown by the Nigerian people, acknowledging that retaining the title will be a tough task due to intense competition.

Zamalek’s women’s volleyball team has a rich history, having won their first continental title and appearing at a strong and honorable level for women’s sports in the club.

The team has dominated individual titles in the tournament and has become the first Egyptian team to secure a spot at the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship.

Zamalek will face 10 times champion Al-Ahly in the final on Sunday, looking to retain their title and make it three wins in a row.
