Zamalek’s Head Coach, Ahmed Fathy, has applauded Nigeria for successfully hosting a world-class ongoing 39th Africa Women’s Volleyball Club Championship in Abuja.

In an exclusive chat with Persecondnews correspondent, Fathy, whose team is gunning for a third consecutive title, expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality his team has received from the host nation.

Fathy, who spoke through a translator, Dr. Somaya Niyeh, said: “We thank the organizers for an amazing job so far. Due to the good hospitality, my team has settled in well and is ready to compete.”

Zamalek’s coach expressed gratitude for the warmth and kindness shown by the Nigerian people, acknowledging that as defending champions, his team must focus on the task at hand rather than complaining.

Fathy also recognized the challenges ahead, stressing that retaining the title will be a tough task due to the intense competition.

“We are aware that we have to be at our best if we are to retain this crown. We are prepared for any situation,” he said.

Zamalek’s title defence got off to a flying start, with a convincing 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-23) victory over Prisons of Kenya in Pool B.

Zamalek’s women’s volleyball team has a rich history, having won their first continental title and appearing at a strong and honourable level for women’s sports in the club.

Persecondnews reports that the team has dominated the individual titles in this tournament, achieving a notable milestone by becoming the first Egyptian team to secure a spot at the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship.

They are also the second Arab team and third African team to represent the Arab and African teams in this tournament.
