The Senate on Thursday confirmed the nomination of Omolola Oloworaran for appointment as the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).

President Bola Tinubu had forwarded Oloworaran’s name to the Senate for confirmation.

The Senate resolution was a direct outcome of its deliberations and approval of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service’s report during a plenary session.

Persecondnews reports that the Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Cyril Fasuyi, presented the report.

Fasuyi, in his presentation, said the committee observed that the nominee possessed the requisite legal requirement specified under the provisions of sections 19 (2), (5), (6), and 26 of the Pension Reform Act-2014, Act No. 4, necessary for appointment to the position of Director-General of the National Pension Commission.

He further stated that, currently, there is no adverse security report or petition before the Committee against the nomination of the nominee for the appointment as the Director-General of the National Pension Commission.

According to him, the committee established, both in fact and in law, that the nominee has satisfied the requisite requirements and “is hereby affirmed to be qualified, fit, and a proper person suitable for appointment as the Director-General of the National Pension Commission.”

After putting it to a voice vote by the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, who presided over plenary, she was confirmed as the Director General of PENCOM.

Barau praised the committee for thoroughly vetting the nominee, expressing confidence that she will excel in repositioning the agency.

He said: “Let me commend the Committee of the Senate led by Senator Cyril. You have done a wonderful job by screening the nominee, and you confirmed her pedigree to manage the office. This was also confirmed by senators from her state.”
