Bobrisky: Rep to probe bribe allegations against EFCC, Correctional Services

The House of Representatives is to launch an investigation into the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) on their handling of popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye’s (Bobrisky) prosecution and imprisonment.

The decision followed Rep. Patrick Umoh’s (APC, Akwa Ibom) motion of urgent public importance, during which he broached the subject.

Persecondnews recalls that Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, recently sparked controversy with a disturbing and widely circulated report, accusing key Nigerian law enforcement institutions, including the EFCC and the NCoS (prisons), of taking bribes.

According to Umoh, Otse’s publication alleged that the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against Bobrisky after receiving a N15 million bribe.

Furthermore, the publication asserted that Bobrisky served his sentence outside the NCoS, despite his conviction for abusing and defacing the Naira.

Umoh expressed concern about Nigeria’s negative image and portrayal of itself as a corrupt nation.

Persecondnews recalls that on April 12, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos Federal High Court sentenced Bobrisky to six months imprisonment without an option for bail.

In his ruling, Justice Awogboro emphasized that Bobrisky’s conviction serves as a deterrent to others who abuse the Nigerian currency.

He held that: “The act of mutilating the Naira notes has become a menace, which has continued to damage the country’s image.

“Enough of people mutilating and tampering with our currencies. It has to stop. His will serve as a deterrent to others.”
