Dynamite struck the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the area.

According to reports, the incident happened early on Monday, specifically at 1 a.m.

The assailants allegedly threw substances believed to be dynamite into the secretariat building, shattering windows and doors, as well as destroying other party property.

The incident happened amid rumours that Gov. Siminalayi Fubara intends to defect to the APP with his loyalists, following allegations that his predecessor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has taken control of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

According to reports, the explosion not only caused significant damage to the building’s exterior but also damaged the ceiling and internal fittings, with party officials seen discussing the incident.

A party official claimed that the explosion had political motivations and that he learnt of the attack at 3 a.m.

He said: “This is politically motivated, and there are no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits.”

Contacted, the state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said she was unaware of the incident but promised to get details.
