Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka has announced that he may reapply for his United States of America green card after Donald Trump’s conviction.
Persecondnews recalls that the 1986 Nobel Prize for Literature winner destroyed his US green card in 2016 after Donald Trump won the US presidential election.
Soyinka, a scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Institute of African American Affairs, said in November 2016, while speaking to the students of Oxford University, England, that: “If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he is likely to do is to say all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US.” Well, I’m not waiting for that.
“The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.
”Soyinka is considering reapplying for permanent US residency following Donald Trump’s conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records.”
Soyinka described the verdict as a daybreak for a new democratic promise and a clear warning that the clamor for equity breaks down the stoutest gates on guard across the citadel of impunity.
He sees the Trump ordeal as a warning, urging preparedness and steadfastness in response to adversity.
