FIFA rankings: Super Eagles jump to 28th best team in the world

Nigeria’s men’s football team, the Super Eagles, have moved up 14 places in the latest FIFA ranking, climbing from 42nd to 28th in the world.

With their impressive display in the just concluded Africa Nations Cup in Cote d’Ivoire, the three-time African champions, the Super Eagles, also moved three places in the continent from sixth to third in Africa.

Persecondnews reports that in the latest FIFA rating released on Thursday, Morocco maintained their spot as the highest-ranked African team (12th in the world) and Senegal second (17th in the world).

The Nigerian team, which scored eight goals and conceded four goals in Ivory Coast, keeping four clean sheets, achieved their highest global ranking since May 2013, when they were also ranked 28th.

Other top gainers in the ranking include Equatorial Guinea (79th, up 9 places), South Africa (58th, up 8 places), Cabo Verde (65th, up 8 places), Namibia (107th, up 8 pplaces),and Mali (47th, up 4 places).

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi’s Argentina maintained their reputation as the number one team in the world, ahead of France and Brazil, which occupied the second and third spots, respectively.
