Kogi State 21 local government chairmen and 239 councillors have vacated their offices as they served out their three-year tenure on Thursday.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr S.M. Ozigi Deedat, confirmed this in a statement signed by him and obtained by Persecond News in Lokoja, the state capital.

According to Deedat, the chairmen and councillors were sworn in on December 15, 2020, and have now successfully completed their terms in office.

Deedat extended his congratulations to the outgoing council leaders, acknowledging their commendable commitment and dedication to their roles.

“On behalf of the management and staff of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, I wish to congratulate the Executive Chairmen across the 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State for their successful end of tenure in office as Executive Chairmen,” it said.

The commissioner said the outgoing officials were instrumental to promoting security and infrastructural developments that have had a positive impact on citizens’ welfare.

Persecondnews recalls that on November 12, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Usman Ododo, a former auditor-general of local governments in the state, the governor-elect.
