Nigeria’s Central Bank has launched its second and final Treasury Bills primary market auction for August 2026.
The apex bank is floating N700 billion in short-term sovereign debt on behalf of the Debt Management Office (DMO).
The total financial offering is structured across three distinct tenors.
Short-term 91-day and mid-term 182-day papers are allocated N100 billion each.
The remaining N500 billion chunk is dedicated entirely to the long-term 364-day bill.
This distribution highlights the banking regulator’s ongoing Q3 2026 liquidity strategy.
By heavily weighting the 364-day assets, the apex bank maintains its explicit preference for longer-dated instruments.
The multi-tiered debt sale will be executed using the classic Dutch auction mechanism.
Official guidelines require authorized Money Market Dealers to submit electronic applications.
All bidding must go through the dedicated CBN S4 Web Interface.
The strict three-hour window opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Investment criteria stipulate that each single bid must be a multiple of N1,000.
Potential buyers must also meet a mandatory entry threshold of N50,001,000.
Registered dealers can submit multiple entries for themselves, non-money market firms, or individual retail investors.
The definitive outcomes of the sovereign debt sale will be made public on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Successful institutional and individual buyers will receive their official allotment letters the next day, Thursday, August 27, 2026.
All cleared funds for winning bids must reach the apex bank by 11:00 a.m. on the collection date.
Crucially, the monetary regulator retains full authority to modify total volumes or decline any investor bids based on shifting marketplace realities.
