Putting an end to months of political whispering about a potential shakeup, President Bola Tinubu has locked in Vice President Kashim Shettima as his 2027 running mate.

The definitive move unfolded at a high-stakes Abuja ceremony where the APC accepted their nomination forms.

The decision came together at the Continental Hotel in Abuja, drawing together the APC’s National Working Committee and its most influential leaders.

Insiders at the event confirmed that Tinubu has firmly thrown his weight behind his current deputy, setting the stage for the formal campaign rollout.

On Friday, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, received the presidential nomination forms during the ceremony.

They were presented by Ibrahim Masari, Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters.

The occasion attracted several top APC figures and state governors, reflecting strong backing for the ticket including Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman and Imo Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni, and Kebbi Governor Dr. Nasir Idris.

Also in attendance were Kano Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kaduna Governor Senator Uba Sani, Borno Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, and Adamawa Governor Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Their participation signaled widespread support across the party’s strongholds.

Vice President Shettima had earlier visited President Tinubu at his office following the retention decision.

The swift move underscores the party’s urgency to solidify the re-nomination and present a unified front.

By retaining Shettima, Tinubu has effectively silenced persistent rumours that he might replace his deputy with a northern Christian candidate to balance the ticket for the 2027 general elections.
