Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas has dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and officially registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He received his party card at a ceremony in Jalingo on Sunday, reports Persecondnews.

The move marks a significant shift in Taraba’s political landscape, with Kefas citing the need to align the state with the federal government and address internal PDP crises as reasons for his defection.

Kefas, who was elected governor in 2023 on the PDP platform, was joined by prominent politicians, including Speaker of the State House of Assembly, John Kizito Bonzena, and former Speaker Abel Peter Diah.

He explained that the registration allows him to fully participate in APC activities, pending a grand defection ceremony.

The governor’s move follows a string of high-profile exits from the PDP, including Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri, Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, and Enugu Governor Peter Mbah, who all joined the APC a few months ago.
