I’m human, I bleed like you all, says Wumi Toriola

Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has opened up on the emotional realities of being a celebrity, insisting that fame does not make one immune to hurt.

In a heartfelt post on social media, she addressed critics who argued that public figures should not respond to online bullies.

Fame doesn’t cancel feelings. We are humans before anything else,” she wrote, insisting that that silence is not always strength but sometimes a wounded human trying to stay composed.

Her words struck a chord as she reflected on the backlash from her recent online interactions.

The actress acknowledged the criticism her earlier post received, noting that some felt she was bullying the subject in question. I

n response, she said she would retrace her steps, stating, “Okay, so I heard my previous post’s subject is a serial bully. Ok na, we move. Not here anymore. Thank you all.”

Wumi explained that celebrities are not exempt from emotions, and that responding to attacks is sometimes necessary.

“Some say public figures shouldn’t respond to bullies. They sometimes forget we bleed the same way,” she added.

A few days prior, Wumi shared a photo of herself lying in bed receiving drips, drawing attention to the mental toll of internet trolling.

She compared online dragging to being in the ICU, highlighting how deeply hurtful constant criticism can feel.

The controversy also involved comments from her colleague, Afeez Owo, who suggested that Wumi only reacts when provoked and that people often look for trouble with her because she does not tolerate nonsense.

In response, Wumi questioned his statement; jokingly asking if she should “rent a husband to hold the mic and spoil things,” while urging the older actor to tone down the drama.

Despite their disagreements, she noted that she still respects him.

The backlash extended to a subtle shade from singer Adekunle Gold, who compared her to former BBNaija contestant Imisi, noting that they shared a “crazy personality.”

Wumi admitted that she has since reflected and repented, affirming that she has worked on herself and is now a gentler person.
