Nigeria suffers a historic snub as no Super Eagle or Super Falcons star makes the 2026 CAF awards cut, the first such omission for the men since 2015 and women since the prize began in 2001.

Despite Osimhen, Lookman and Bassey featuring in the AFCON best eleven after Nigeria’s bronze in January 2026, Senegal and Morocco dominate the Player of the Year list with Hakimi, Diaz, Saibari, Mane, Sarr and Gueye.

Completing the 10-man shortlist are Amad Diallo of Cote d’Ivoire, Yoane Wissa of DR Congo, Antoine Semenyo of Ghana and Teboho Mokoena of South Africa, as the list was unveiled midweek.

Coach nominees feature Senegal’s Ndiaye and Thiaw, Cape Verde’s Bubista, DR Congo’s Desabre, Egypt’s Hassan and Gamal, Atlético Luanda’s Santos, Sundowns’ Cardoso, and Morocco’s Ouahbi and Regragui.
