Osun Decides: Nearly 2m Voter Cards Collected Ahead of August 15 Election

Over 1.9 million voters in Osun State are ready for Saturday’s governorship election after collecting their PVCs, according to INEC.

Uncollected cards stand at 432,843—about 18.5% of the state’s 2.33 million total registered voters.

INEC confirmed that these remaining cards have been safely secured at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Commission also disclosed that 6,101 persons who applied for replacement of damaged, defaced or lost PVCs had printed downloadable copies of their cards.

A polling unit-by-polling unit table showing the PVCs collected had been published on its website, according to a statement on Friday, by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, obtained by PersecondNews.

INEC reaffirmed its preparedness to conduct Saturday’s election.

“The Commission reassures political parties, civil society organisations, media, and the good people of Osun State of its total readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive election on Saturday”.

PerSecondNews reports that the battle for the Osun governorship has narrowed down to four key contenders: the APC, Accord Party, ADC, and SDP.

The race turns tense as escalating violence, threats, and killings disrupt the lead-up to the poll, triggering a heated war of words between the Accord Party and the APC.
