Following the dissolution of its Federal Capital Territory executive committee by the chapter congress, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has appointed a three-man caretaker committee to run affairs and facilitate fresh elections within three months.

The national leadership, in a letter signed by Secretary-General Ikenna Okonkwo, named Edwin Akwueh as Chairman of the caretaker panel, with Tamara Ebiwei serving as Secretary and Linus T. Hagher as the third member.

The move comes after the FCT Congress dissolved the previous executive on June 19, a decision formally communicated to the SWAN National Secretariat on June 23.

The National Executive Committee, under President Isaiah Benjamin, approved the constitution of the caretaker body to ensure uninterrupted operations of the association’s activities in the FCT.

The three-member committee has been tasked with working alongside the FCT Congress to establish the SWAN Electoral Committee, known as SWANECO, which will organise elections for a new substantive executive within the three-month period.

Taking immediate effect, the appointment came with strict instructions for the former executive to return all association property to the caretaker team without delay.

The national body also wrote to the outgoing FCT Chapter Chairman, Kelechi Onwudiwe, to coordinate the handover and thank his team for their contributions.

Wishing the former officials well in their future pursuits, Benjamin urged the incoming caretaker leadership to use their shared experience to maintain stability and keep the chapter running smoothly.
