Ahead of the 2027 elections, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has dismissed rumours that the party will grant automatic tickets to sitting National Assembly members.
Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja, Yilwatda clarified that such a move would contradict the party’s governing principles.
“There is no provision for an automatic ticket in our constitution,” the chairman said, adding that the party cannot make such promises.
He emphasized that candidate selection must strictly adhere to the processes defined by both the APC constitution and the Electoral Act.
“There’s no automatic ticket in our constitution. The constitution of the party does not provide for automatic tickets, and the party cannot wishfully promise automatic ticket to anyone.
“The Electoral Act also does not provide for automatic ticket. It says all primaries must be either by consensus or by direct primaries,” he said.
According to Yilwatda, all aspirants within the party would be subjected to the same process without exception.
“All members of our party will undergo the same process. We will use the Electoral Act, our party guidelines, and constitution to get people to participate in primaries,” he declared.
The APC chairman noted that performance would be a deciding factor for those seeking re-election.
“The people and party members will judge those who have performed very well.”
