Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet to launch his 2027 gubernatorial bid in Bauchi State.

The Ministry confirmed the exit on Monday through spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, noting that Tuggar submitted his formal resignation shortly after noon on Monday, March 30.

The outgoing minister intends to contest for the governorship under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The directive applies to ministers, ministers of state, special advisers, senior special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants, and heads of federal agencies.

It is in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and is aimed at preventing conflicts of interest as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections.
