Mr. Musiliu Oseni, Chairman, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has urged power sector journalists to prioritize consumer education, noting that public trust is the “make or break” factor for current energy reforms.

Speaking to the Power Correspondent Association of Nigeria during their Monday visit in Abuja, Oseni emphasized that informed consumers are essential to the industry’s success.

He urged the reporters to make better use of their access to information to improve the quality of industry reporting and bridge existing knowledge gaps among electricity users.

He noted that informed and accurate media coverage remains critical to building public support for reforms within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, particularly at a time when the sector continues to undergo significant changes.

In his remarks, PCAN Chairman, Obas Esiedesa commended NERC for improving transparency through enhanced digital platforms and proactive data sharing.

He also reaffirmed the association’s commitment to deepening the accuracy and impact of reporting on the power sector.

Persecondnews power correspondent reports that the engagement underscores growing collaboration between regulators and the media, a key driver that strengthens accountability and consumer awareness in Nigeria’s electricity industry.
