The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has extended the registration deadline for the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to March 13.

The examination body announced the extension in a notice shared on its official X platform on Friday.

According to WAEC, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, approved the extension to allow prospective candidates resolve outstanding registration issues.

“The final deadline is now Friday, March 13, 2026. WAEC urges all stakeholders to take advantage of this extension to resolve any pending registration issues as no further extension will be granted,” the council said.

The 2026 examination will mark the introduction of a computer-based testing format nationwide.

Persecondnews reports that Alausa had earlier announced in September 2025 that the transition to computer-based examinations was aimed at strengthening the assessment system and reducing cases of examination malpractice across the country.

As part of the broader reform process, WAEC has also introduced its digital certificate platform, WAEC DigiCert, in Nigeria and four other West African countries, including Ghana.

The system allows candidates to access, request, confirm and share digital versions of their certificates through a mobile or web-based application.

Demianus Ojijeogu, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC headquarters in Accra, said the platform also enables candidates to recover lost WAEC examination numbers and verify certificates more easily.
