Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, one half of the defunct duo P-Square, has opened up about a lesser-known chapter of his life, revealing that his journey to music success once ran side by side with an ambitious football dream.

The singer, popularly known as Mr P, shared the revelation while reflecting on the sacrifices behind his creative process as he works on a forthcoming album that he believes will mark a defining moment in his career.

According to him, a late-night moment captured secretly by his producer in the studio reminded him of how far he has come and the unseen effort behind every successful project.

“My sound engineer/producer caught this moment without me knowing… 3 AM in the studio. Sacrifices most people don’t see,” he said, describing the intensity of the creative grind that currently surrounds the production of his next body of work.

He stressed that the experience goes beyond music alone, saying the long nights and dedication mirror the reality of anyone striving to achieve a meaningful goal.

“But this is not just about music… It’s about every journey in life. The sleepless nights. The unseen grind. Trust the process; every real hustle will surely pay off,” he said.

The singer also hinted that the forthcoming album would help listeners understand the depth of the work being put in behind the scenes.

“When the snippets start dropping… and when the album finally drops, you’ll understand. Remember this post. This is where the story changes. Album in progress,” he added.

While reflecting on the path that brought him to this point, Peter disclosed that music was not always the only dream he pursued as a young boy growing up.

He revealed that he once balanced his passion for football with music and was close to building a professional career in the sport.

“I used to play football and chase music at the same time… I was even offered the chance to play for Plateau United F.C. from Pepsi Football Academy back then in Jos,” he recalled.

Despite the opportunity, Peter said his ambitions stretched beyond local football, as he had dreams of playing on the European stage.

“But my dream was always to play in Europe. Somehow, destiny chose the mic instead,” he explained.

Looking back today, the award-winning performer said he sees the shift from football to music as a clear act of grace.

“Today, I’m an established and successful artiste/musician. That’s nothing but grace,” he said.
