The Sultan of Sokoto has announced that the Ramadan fast will officially commence on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

This follows the successful sighting of the new moon of Ramadan 1447AH, as verified by the Sultanate’s Advisory Council on Religious Affairs and the National Moon Sighting Committee.

Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Waziri Sokoto, confirmed that reports from sighting committees across the nation were thoroughly vetted before the Sultan’s final declaration.

In his message to the nation, Sultan Abubakar congratulated Muslims on the arrival of the holy month and urged them to seek the blessings and protection of the Almighty during this period of spiritual reflection.

The Sultan also urged Muslims to intensify prayers for peace, progress, and national development, wishing the faithful a spiritually rewarding Ramadan and praying that Allah accepts their acts of worship.
