After Earlier Denial, Police Confirm Kidnapping of Over 100 Christians at Kaduna Church

After a wave of conflicting reports, the Nigeria Police Force has finally validated the kidnapping of more than 100 worshippers from the remote Kurmin Wali community.

The confirmation comes after a period of official doubt sparked by a state security meeting where the incident was initially labeled as “false” by certain individuals.

The Police have since walked back their previous ambiguity, claiming that earlier statements were misunderstood and were simply a “pending confirmation” of the facts.

A statement by Force PRO, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said Police were aware of the “deep concern generated by reports of an abduction incident at Kurmin Wali” and acknowledged the fear such reports had caused residents and the wider public.

It explained that the initial uncertainty followed a meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council, convened by Governor Uba Sani, where “some individuals from the affected local government area disputed the report, which had earlier been confirmed by the Police, and described it as false.”

With the abduction now confirmed through intelligence sources, a joint security task force has been deployed to the area to track the kidnappers and secure the release of the captives.

The statement said Police Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun had ordered the deployment of “critical operational and intelligence assets to Kajuru and surrounding communities,” including tactical units, intensified patrols and targeted search-and-rescue operations.

The statement also appealed to the public and the media to exercise restraint, urging them to rely on official communications for verified information and to avoid speculation that could undermine ongoing operations.

“The Force remains fully committed to the safety of all citizens and will continue to provide updates as developments unfold,” the statement said.
