Nigeria’s most capped international, Ahmed Musa, has officially announced his retirement from international football, bringing to an end a distinguished career with the Super Eagles that spanned nearly 15 years.

Musa, who earned 111 caps for the national team, reflected on his journey, highlighting his pride and responsibility in representing Nigeria

“Football gave me a career, but Nigeria gave me meaning,” Musa said, expressing his gratitude to the country and its people.

He recalled his early days, juggling call-ups to Nigeria’s U-20, U-23, and senior national teams, and how representing Nigeria was never a decision he hesitated over.

Musa’s international career was marked by notable achievements, including Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations triumph and his goals at the FIFA World Cup, particularly against Argentina and Iceland.

He became Nigeria’s highest goalscorer on the World Cup stage, scoring four goals.

As captain of the Super Eagles, Musa learned valuable lessons in leadership, patience, and selflessness.

“Wearing the armband taught me a lot, about responsibility, patience, and putting others first,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to teammates, coaches, and fans for their support throughout his career.

“Once an Eagle, always an Eagle,” Musa said, reaffirming his lifelong connection to the national team.

He steps away from international football with a sense of peace and fulfillment, confident in the Super Eagles’ future progress.
