A Lagos-based operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has collapsed and died in Lagos.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, was captured in a video circulating online with the officer wearing plainclothes.

Persecondnews reports that in the footage, sympathizers, including police officers, are seen gathered around the lifeless body while police officers are also shown searching the deceased officer’s bag.

The identity of the officer has not been disclosed.

The spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Dele Oyewale, who confirmed the officer’s death, said investigation into the cause of his death has commenced.

“Yes, the man is our officer. His death is being investigated. The incident happened on Sunday,” Oyewale said.

Persecondnews reported that on January 15 that a suspected Yahoo boy, Joshua Ikechukwu, shot an Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, Aminu Salisu, during a midnight raid in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The operatives, who had travelled from the EFCC’s zonal headquarters in Enugu, were said to be on a mission to apprehend a group of suspected cyber criminals when they were ambushed.
