Nigeria’s land borders will soon be reopened to commercial activity again, according to a House of Representatives member Sesi Whingah.

Rep.Whingah, who represents Lagos Badagry federal constituency, gave the cheering news at a stakeholders and youth engagement programme in Badagry, a border town with Benin Republic that the President Bola Tinubu administration will soon reopen the land borders.

The programme with the theme, “Charting a Prosperous Future for Badagry: Unlocking Potential, Empowering People, and Accelerating Progress,” brought together stakeholders and youth to discuss strategies for Badagry’s development.

According to the lawmaker, the government is trying to see how they can mop up revenue internally.

He said:”This is a policy that we believe needs to be done and will lead to good.

“The current administration will soon open borders for commercial activities; I know it is affecting us and our incomes. I know what my constituents are going through.”

Whingah also promised that staff from the Rural Electrification Agency would arrive within the next few days to address the electrification needs of some communities in Badagry.

He lamented that the numerous checkpoints along the Lagos-Badagry expressway were hindering development in Badagry, emphasizing the need to address the issue of multiple roadblocks.

He said:”I have spoken against multiple checkpoints on the floor of the House. I doubt if we can achieve any development if we have people stopping and discouraging tourists and investors from coming to this corridor.

“You cannot go through the stress of these multiple checkpoints as a tourist, and you would want to come back to this place.

“The security agencies need to start looking at using technology to address this. A single drone can secure and monitor this axis.”

In recognition of their exceptional achievements, the lawmaker honoured outstanding contributors to Badagry by presenting them with cash prizes, laptops, and other gifts.

Additionally, Whingah announced the launch of the “Badagry Tech Talents 1,000 Programme,” an ICT initiative aimed at training, empowering, and connecting 1,000 youths in the area.
