The Defence Headquarters has refuted speculations that military personnel attacked the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, on Sunday.

Bello reportedly “escaped assassination” which occurred a few kilometres away from Abuja on his way to an official engagement.

Mr Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information, said the attack occurred on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 4.00pm, claiming that the “assilants were dressed in military uniforms.”

Meanwhile, the Director, Defence Information, Army Defence Headquarters, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, clarified that “the governor did not say it was the military that attacked him.”

He pointed out that the military personnel will never attack the governor.

According to Gusau, the governor did not say that soldiers attacked him but that his attackers or criminals only dressed in military uniforms.

Gusau called on the Police to investigate the incident with a view to unraveling those involved in the attack.
