Doctor hauled up in court for allegedly sedating, raping patient

The Chief Medical Director of Ayodele Hospital, a private health facility in Ilorin the Kwara State capital, Dr Ayodele Joseph, has been accused of raping a patient who came for medical treatment in his hospital.

Summarily, the doctor has been arraigned in court on a two-count charge of act of gross indecency and rape.

The patient, a licensed nurse, had visited the hospital for medical attention when Joseph, who claimed to have 27 years of medical experience, allegedly sedated and had a carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

Following an investigation into the case by the Police, a video recording containing sexual action of the defendant on the victim was recovered while medical test also confirmed that the nurse was raped.

Police Prosecutor Gbenga Ayeni told the court about the gravity of the offences committed and the motion attached to the police report and sought the remand of the suspect.

He said the offences violated Sections 283 and 285 of the Penal Code.

Giving a ruling, Magistrate Gbadeyan Jumoke Kamson remanded the doctor in prison and adjourned the case to May 18, 2023.
