For Nollywood actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim-Effiong, he does not just kiss carelessly but he prays to God before filming any romantic or kissing scene on-set.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds, the The Herd director explained that his faith and sense of purpose guide him through the emotional and moral complexities of his profession.

“I get all my inspiration from God,” he said.

“I go on my knees and pray before I go to set and kiss.”

Etim-Effiong, known for his romantic roles, has faced public scrutiny particularly after a viral kissing scene with actress Bolaji Ogunmola in Summer Rain.

He, however, clarified that his intent is always rooted in storytelling, not controversy.

“The fact that I play a lot of romantic roles means I get to have kissing scenes sometimes.

“But the question should go to the producers why are they expressing affection only one way? There are other ways to show intimacy,” he said.

The 37-year-old actor, who left a promising engineering career to pursue acting, described the craft as a divine calling.

“My family is my garden, then my work. Acting feels like a calling tome a way to worship through storytelling,” he added.

He also noted that the prevalence of romantic scenes in Nollywood is largely due to audience demand.

“The average Nollywood script says, ‘kiss passionately,’ because that’s what sells. But I believe there are braver ways to explore affection on screen,” he said.
