The NNPC Foundation has kicked off the North-West phase of its Vulnerable Farmers Training Programme in Kano, with the aim of equipping farmers with practical skills to boost productivity and food security.

The programme has already engaged over 7,000 registered farmers across four geopolitical zones, focusing on vulnerable farmers, women, and youth.

“This programme is not just about training. It is about transforming households from subsistence farming to sustainable income and resilience,” said Mrs Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director, NNPC Foundation.

She was represented by Mrs Eugenia Dominion, Executive Director of Finance at NNPC Foundation.

Persecondnews reports that the training modules include climate-smart agriculture, post-harvest handling, financial literacy, cooperative formation, and digital tools for market access, designed to provide farmers with essential skills and knowledge.

The programme’s success will be measured by improved yields, reduced losses, and stronger cooperatives.

Arukwe urged farmers in Kano and Jigawa states to participate fully in the programme, emphasizing its potential for lasting impact on their lives and communities.

Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Danjuma Mamood, pledged the state government’s support, highlighting its commitment to agricultural transformation.

The government has employed 1,038 extension officers and invested in mechanized farming, demonstrating its prioritization of agriculture.

“This initiative represents a bold step towards achieving food security, tackling unemployment, and addressing climate-related challenges,” Mamood stated.

Alhaji Ado Japanese, a beneficiary from Gwale Local Government Area, commended the NNPC Foundation for organizing the training, saying it will mobilize farmers toward increased food production.
