Nigeria’s Oil Output Hits Six-Month High, Reaches 1.7mbpd

"Even though Nigeria's oil production has hit a six-month high with over 1.7 million barrels being produced daily, we at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) are still exploring ways to expand the frontiers of energy production"

Nigeria’s oil production has reached a new six-month high, averaging 1.71 million barrels per day (mbpd) in July 2025.

This represents a significant 9.9% year-on-year surge from the 1.56 million bpd produced in July 2024.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) disclosed the latest figures on its official X handle on Thursday, attributing the positive trend to enhanced security measures and improved operational efficiencies across the upstream value chain.

According to NUPRC, the rise in production is a direct result of its strategic interventions.

“We have been unwavering in our commitment to implementing a robust regulatory regime, and this consistent increase in production is a testament to the effectiveness of our efforts to curb crude oil theft and ensure a more secure operating environment for all industry players,” the commission stated.

The NUPRC disclosed the figures on August 26, 2025, highlighting its commitment to transparency and accountability.

NUPRC’s Chief Executive, Engineer Gbenga Komolafe, reiterated the commission’s readiness to attract fresh investments and encourage existing investors to scale up.

“Even though Nigeria’s oil production has hit a six-month high with over 1.7 million barrels being produced daily, we at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) are still exploring ways to expand the frontiers of energy production,” the Commission added.

Komolafe has previously emphasized the government’s target of increasing production to 2.1 million bpd by 2026.

The production report detailed a strong performance from several crude oil terminals.

The Forcados terminal recorded the highest output in July with 9.04 million barrels, representing a 2.1% increase from 8.85 million barrels in June.

The Bonny terminal saw a significant 12.7% increase in production, rising to 8.07 million barrels in July from 7.16 million barrels in June.

Other terminals, such as Escravos, Bonga, and Odudu (Amenam Blend), also recorded notable increases in production.

The current figures show a positive trajectory toward achieving Nigeria’s production goal of 2.1 million bpd by 2026.
