Manchester City Thrash Wolves 4-0 in Season Opener

1.3k

Manchester City kicked off the Premier League season with a convincing 4-0 win over Wolves at Molineux on Saturday.

The Citizens’ victory was built on the impressive performances of Tijjani Reijnders and Rico Lewis, who played crucial roles in breaking down the Wolves defence.

Reijnders was a standout performer, netting a goal and setting up another.

His brilliant solo run in the 33rd minute broke open the Wolves’ defense, creating the space for the opening goal and demonstrating an impact that went far beyond his stats.

Lewis, who operates as a midfielder in possession, was instrumental in City’s attacking play, serving Erling Haaland for the first goal and creating opportunities throughout the game.

The Citizens initially struggled to break down Wolves’ narrow 5-4-1 formation, but the introduction of dynamic movements from Reijnders and Lewis changed the game.

Reijnders’ solo run and pass to Lewis, who squared it to Haaland, resulted in the opening goal.

The Norwegian striker made it 1-0, and the floodgates opened.

Oscar Bobb’s interception led to Reijnders scoring the second goal, and the Dutchman’s third involvement in the game set up Haaland’s second goal.

Haaland’s goalscoring record continues to impress, with the Norwegian scoring in four consecutive opening fixtures for Manchester City.

His ninth goal against Wolves further solidified his reputation as a clinical finisher.

Rayan Cherki added a fourth goal in the 81st minute, sealing the win for the Citizens.

Manchester City’s defensive line also deserves credit for a solid display, with the linesman flagging several Wolves players for offside positions.

This disrupted the visitors’ attacking plays and forced them to look for alternative options.

Goalkeeper James Trafford made a strong case for himself with an impressive performance, showcasing good awareness and decision-making.
