Nigeria’s Super Falcons have secured a spot in the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a thrilling 2-1 victory over South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the semi-finals.

The match was played with high intensity, with both teams creating scoring opportunities.

Rasheedat Ajibade gave Nigeria the lead in the 45th minute, calmly converting a penalty to make it 1-0 heading into the break.

However, South Africa responded strongly in the second half, leveling the score in the 60th minute through Linda Motlhalo’s penalty kick.

The game seemed destined for extra time, but Michelle Alozie scored the winner deep into stoppage time, netting in the 90+4th minute after a setup from Esther Okoronkwo.

This dramatic win sees the Super Falcons book a place in the WAFCON final, continuing their dominance on the continental stage.

The Super Falcons’ path to the final has been impressive, with victories over Africa powerhouse teams Zambia and South Africa, they scored six goals and conceded just one in both encounter.

With their eyes on another continental title, the Super Falcons will be looking to make a strong impression in the final.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are the most successful team in WAFCON history, with nine titles under their belt.

They have participated in every edition of the tournament since its inception in 1991 and have been a dominant force in African women’s football.
