The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Nigeria from London ahead of his final burial rites scheduled for later today in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

Vice President Kashim Shettima accompanied the late president’s remains as they touched down at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport in Katsina, where President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dikko Umar Radda, top government officials, and members of the Buhari family gathered to receive him.

As the nation comes to terms with the loss, a host of prominent figures have assembled at Buhari’s residence, including former Vice Presidents Yemi Osinbajo and Atiku Abubakar; ex-Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi; and former Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.

Also present are former governors Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), and Ali Modu Sheriff (Borno), the latter a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Among other dignitaries are Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote; former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami; and former Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen.

Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 3, at the age of 82, following a prolonged undisclosed illness at a private clinic in London. His death marks the end of an era in Nigerian politics, prompting widespread reactions across the country and beyond.
