FCT Transport Sector Gets Major Overhaul: Wike Unveils Plans

A significant overhaul of the public transportation system in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is on the horizon, promising a more comfortable and safer experience for residents.

According to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, arrangements have been finalized to introduce a seamless transportation network.

Wike disclosed this on Friday, May 30, in Abuja after inspecting the newly completed Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals.

The terminals are among the projects slated for inauguration to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s second anniversary in office.

The Minister also inspected the completed access road to the Giri District, which is also ready for inauguration.

Wike emphasized that extensive reforms are underway within the FCT’s transportation sector.

He revealed that a dedicated committee is actively working on these reforms, with their findings expected to be ready before the official inauguration of the bus and taxi terminals.

“Obviously a lot of things will happen in the transport sector in the FCT. There will be a lot of reforms.

“Because as part of security measures, we must know those involved in taxi business and what colour to use, so that if anything happens, we will be able to identify them.

“Just be assured that we are doing everything possible to strengthen our transportation system,” said Wike.

The minister promised to remove many motor parks operating on the roads across the FCT.

Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality of the newly completed Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals.

While acknowledging the contractor’s commendable efforts and pledging continued support for local contractors, he did note a few areas requiring minor corrections.

These terminals, along with the one under construction in the Central Area, are part of a broader initiative to enhance the Federal Capital Territory’s transportation system.

With the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals now ready for inauguration, the Minister also disclosed plans for the construction of two additional terminals in Bwari and Gwagwalada, further expanding the FCT’s public transport infrastructure.
