Ogun Dazzles with Outstanding Preparedness for Gateway Games 2025

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed satisfaction with Ogun State’s level of preparedness ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2025.

The festival is scheduled to take place from May 16 to May 30, 2025.

NSC Director General Bukola Olopade led a joint team to inspect facilities earmarked for the Games, praising Gov. Dapo Abiodun for the outstanding work done at the vaarious hosting venues.

A statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations of NSC, Mrs Kehinde Ajayi, on Wednesday said the MKO Abiola Stadium has been chosen to host the entire athletics event, including throws, due to its high-quality astroturf.

Olopade said: “The stadium’s security features have also been upgraded, with Public Address System equipped with cameras and a 360-degree environment covered by world-class cameras providing real-time pictures of activities.

“Other facilities, including the Abeokuta Golf course, are also receiving attention, with the NSC committed to providing necessary equipment that will serve as legacies for the state.”

He said the NSC aims to ensure that the impact of the Games extends beyond the event itself, expressing the hope that the support provided will benefit indigent children living around the golf course.

The festival’s logo, theme song, and the mascot were unveiled during the inspection, showcasing Ogun State’s commitment to hosting a premium event.

The theme song, titled “E’kaabo” (welcome), was composed by Dr. Bayo Adepetun, while the mascot, “Omo Ogun,” reflects the state’s energy, cultural heritage, and aspirations.

With all facilities almost ready, the Gateway Games 2024 is expected to be one of the best-organized National Sports Festivals in history.
